Members of SIDS DOCK are likely to be the largest economic losers with large displaced populations if average global temperatures go beyond 1.5 degrees Celsius, corresponding to 350 ppm, which is considered the threshold for the continued survival of ecosystems essential to livelihoods in Small Island Developing States and low-lying coastal States.”
The SIDS DOCK IWON connects women and men working in governments, regional organisations and the private sector across SIDS, who are engaged in implementing sustainable energy and climate resilience building projects. The objective is to ensure that gender equality issues are integrated in the concept, design, implementation and evaluation of sustainable energy and climate resilience projects in the SIDS DOCK Indicative Project Pipeline, by establishing a SIDS association that provides networking opportunities that promote empowerment of women to help build community resilience to a changing climate and sea level rise through capacity building, education and awareness, demonstration of SIDS-Appropriate Technologies, and financing for sustainable energy projects. The SIDS DOCK IWON is being supported by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), under a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
