UNITED NATIONS (UN) HEADQUARTERS, NEW YORK CITY, 5 October 2015 On 30 September 2015, the Small Island Developing States (SIDS) Sustainable Energy and Climate Resilience Initiative – SIDS DOCK – celebrated the entry into force of the SIDS DOCK Treaty, recognising the establishment of the historic intergovernmental organisation vested with the full powers of the United Nations (UN).

Emergency response: Dominica´s recovery
The island of Dominica sustained significant damage due to the passage of Tropical Storm Erika on Thursday, 28 August. A band of torrential rain caused by the system resulted in the deposit of 6 to 8 inches of rain in less than twelve hours and triggered massive flooding and several landslides.
Vienna Energy Forum 2015
The Energy Branch of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), the SIDS Sustainable Energy and Climate Resilience Initiative (SIDS DOCK), the Global Forum on Sustainable Energy (GFSE), the Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC) and the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) are organizing the side event “Energizing the SAMOA Pathway – Launch of the SE4ALL Network of Regional Sustainable Energy Centres for Small Island Developing States (SIDS)”. The event will inform on the status of the SIDS DOCK process and the network of regional sustainable energy centres for SIDS the Pacific, Caribbean, Africa and Indian Ocean.
Study Report on Novel Bioenergy Crop Potential in the ECOWAS Region
ECREEE launched the project “Regional potential assessment of novel bioenergy crops in fifteen ECOWAS countries” in 2012, in partnership with UNIDO, IIBN and QUINVITA, based on the need to make an overall assessment of a series of novel potential bioenergy crops that can or could be grown and processed in the ECOWAS member states.
US President Barack Obama Urges Caribbean on Green Energy
United States President Barack Obama became the first sitting president to visit Jamaica in more than 33 years with a visit to Jamaica this week. Obama arrived on Wednesday for short meetings with US Embassy staff, although he made a late-night visit to the Bob Marley Museum that evening. On Thursday, Obama met with a group of CARICOM Prime Ministers for what was billed as a CARICOM-US Summit.
What is SIDS DOCK?
SIDS DOCK is a United Nations (UN)-recognised international organisation established in 2015, with all the rights and privileges for addressing climate change, resilience, and energy security in small islands. SIDS DOCK represents 32 small islands and low-lying developing states across the globe and is so named because it is designed as a “DOCKing station” to connect the energy sector in SIDS with the global markets for finance and sustainable energy technologies. Belize is the Host Country for the SIDS DOCK Secretariat. The Honourable Wavel Ramkalawan, President of the Republic of Seychelles, is the current President of the 7th session of the Assembly of SIDS DOCK.
